At Worthing D&D we provide every player a clear route into the game. Our Pathway includes once a week training and regular local league competition to help players develop their skills and confidence.
All teams compete in the Sussex County local league, and competition is open for all. The only exception is the U9s and U10s who do not participate in a league.
We do not hold trials for any teams, players are welcome to join at any time and everyone is given the opportunity to play.
Youngsters typically begin in mini and junior sessions, progress through age-group teams in the Sussex County local league, and can explore coaching, officiating and leadership roles as they grow.
Whether someone joins to stay active, make friends or chase higher-level basketball, the pathway is built around participation, development and enjoyment first.

National League
Worthing D&D Basketball Club is NOT a National League club. However we do work closely with near-by National League clubs to provide a pathway for our players to play at a higher level once they are ready.
For players ready to test themselves at a higher level, National League basketball offers an additional pathway designed to be played in addition to Local League — typically from Under 12s through to Under 18s.
What is National League?
National League refers to the 3 levels of league competition run by Basketball England, the National governing body for basketball in England. Unlike local league which is operated at a County level, National league drops these borders for a wider field of competition at a higher level. National League teams typically hold tryouts and only pick the top players for their team.
The 3 levels of National League are: Regional, Conference and Premier. The Premier League is the highest level of competition and the most competitive; clubs must be invited to enter in this league.
What is the difference between Local League and National League?
- Local League is operated at a County level, National League will require much further travel, across the country in Premier divisions.
- Local League is typically played on week-days, National League is typically played on weekends.
- National league teams require trials and selection, Local League teams have opportunities for all players.
- Local League teams train once a week, National League teams train twice or more per week.
- Local league teams typically have 10-14 games per season, National League teams typically have 20-30 games per season.
- Local league (in Sussex) is a mixed gender league, National League is gender defined after U12.
- National League is typically double the price of Local League.
If you are interested in playing National League, please contact the club to discuss your options. Our local teams are Sussex Storm (Boys & Girls: Conference & Premier all age groups) and Worthing Thunder (Boys: Conference & U18 Premier, Girls: training only).
